DTT Final Mosaic by Frenotx DTT Final Mosaic by Frenotx
Finally done with this project, and what a project it was. This is by far the most difficult model I have made yet. Maybe I will add textures one day, but it wont be for quite a while. [Full size= 2560*2048]
I know that the text in the middle is hard to read (unless you download the image), so I will post it below:
--------------------------------------
Dynamic Tracked Tank (DTT)

Role: All terrain, high-speed interceptor

[A r m a m e n t]:

Twin 20mm Vulcan Gatling Guns
-Rate of Fire: 6000 rounds per minute
-Range: <2000 feet
-Role: The Vulcan cannons are very effective
in destroying both heavy and light armor
at close range. Because of the guns' high
rate of fire (combined 12000rpm) they
are typically fired in short bursts.

Twin Rocket-powered Harpoon Guns
-Rate of Fire: 13sec reset time
-Range: <2300 feet
-Role: Each harpoon is made from a super-strong
titanium alloy that, in conjuncture with
the small, shape charge in the nose, allow
the harpoon to pierce even the hardest
materials. The harpoon can be fired into
enemy targets to draw them in and simplify
aiming. Alternatively, the harpoons can be
fired into the ground to perform high-speed
turns. The entire weapon is reusable.

Double-Barreled 40mm Grenade Launcher
-Rate of Fire: 80 rounds per minute
-Range <2.8 miles
-Role: This weapon is mostly used for long-range
bombardment. the rate of fire allows for
a "rain of grenades" effect to be sustained
for long periods of time. Each barrel can
be loaded with different types of charges,
including armor-piercing, incendiary, napalm,
and fragmentation rounds. The grenades can be
thrown up to 3.5 miles away, but at these
distances, accuracy is compromised.

[T e c h n o l o g y]:
The DTT sports a number of features to assist it in the field. On
the right side of the chassis, there is a small parabolic dish. This
Dish is used to locally jam all radar, effectively cloaking the vehicle
and any nearby friendly from the electronic eye. The antennas on the
left side of the chassis are used for communications- the shorter one
used for terrestrial communication and the longer one is used for
satellite uplink. The hull its self is made of a material that reflects
radar and also masks heat. The shell is semi-permeable, allowing the
exhaust to be vented evenly, avoiding heat blooms.

[T r a c k s]:
Each joint in the tread legs is powered by individual high-torque
electric motors. One tread has enough to support the weight of the
entire tank on its own. The dynamic driving base allows for a level
of freedom never before imagined. The treads can be used for
everything from positioning the vehicle at a certain angle, to
performing half walk/half drive to get over obstacles.

Excellent model! Just one question: On the bottom right image, do you think the weight of the vehicle being focused on such a small surface area would wear through the treads or even damage them? :P You show me experimental tech and I start worrying about the guys who have to truck in parts, XD

:iconfrenotx:
Frenotx Featured By Owner Jul 14, 2008
The tracks fit snugly against the drive wheels, so there would be no bending forces on them. The only thing they would be in danger of is squishing flat- a problem rarely seen in solid metal parts. :) Besides, most of the weight is being carried by the rear treads in this configuration.

This vehicle looks formidable!
Although the cabin has an helicopter appearance, it must be sufficiently armored to protect effectivelly the crew inside against 23mm explosive shells or even armor-piercing bullets.

The cabin is designed to be able to withstand heavy caliber bullets, but nothing bigger than that. This vehicle is supposed to use its speed and maneuverability to avoid shots.

Well how long have you been doing 3D? You shouldn't compare your works to that of others too much. You should really just try to compare it to your own previous work. Don't try to be better than someone else, just try to be better than yourself.

Really? Did those tanks even have treads? I thought the just had legs. If anything, this design reminds me more of the tank from wolf's rain. [link] (I couldn't find any pictures from the show, but some dude made a lego version) My tank has an extra degree of movement with the treads, though.

Hmmm don't you think a harpoon gun is a little much. if its a "high speed" interceptor it can catch anything on tank treads (other then another interceptor) and anything lighter you could mow down with the gatling gun and not need precision aiming. as for turning you can just as well have the right treads turn so only a small part has friction wile the left side peals around.

The harpoon cannon is not there for regular turning, it is there for high-speed, high-G, white-knuckle, turning. Also, if you spear a large, slow-moving, vehicle, the you can swing around it while firing. It wouldn't help so much for the aiming, but it would make it harder for the other guy to shoot you. Duck and weave, duck and weave.

Me likes this a lot! :D

A great design that looks quite functional. The track set up you have there really is the most interesting part. Truly an all terrain vehicle. Renders are nice and smooth too.

Glad you think so. I came up with the idea for the tracks first, and basically just designed a vehicle that could incorporate them. I also threw in a couple other ideas of mine, such as the harpoon gun. It would be so cool to see a tank that uses a similar design sometime down the line.

As far as skylighting, yeah, I'm a fan. I have always liked the 'clay render' look, but never really knew how to do it. When I found out about skylights, I was very happy indeed.

Yeah, clay rendering and skylights are cool, and it makes it look more like a 'conceptual' design. Plus you don't have to worry about texturing :D
